The Trojan Horse on the seafront promenade in the city of Çanakkale has become one of the area’s most iconic and photographed landmarks. It is the original prop used in the 2004 Hollywood film Troy, starring Brad Pitt, and was gifted to the city by Warner Bros after the filming was completed. Before arriving in Turkey, the horse toured internationally, including stops in Berlin and Japan, before being officially presented to Çanakkale in September 2004 through an agreement with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The horse was shipped in 134 pieces and reassembled by a team of six German technicians over a ten-day period. The structure is made from a steel frame covered in fibreglass and measures approximately 12.4 metres in height, 10 metres in length, and 6 metres in width, weighing around 12 tonnes. Its rugged, weathered look and impressive size make it an instantly recognisable tribute to both the legendary tale of the Trojan War and its modern cinematic portrayal.
Situated on the city’s lively waterfront with views over the Dardanelles, the horse stands in a popular area lined with cafés, restaurants, and walkways, making it an ideal spot for tourists and locals alike. Visitors often pause here to take photos, particularly at sunset, and to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the promenade. The statue’s blend of myth, history, and film culture captures the imagination of those who pass by, offering a tangible connection to the ancient legend of Troy. It also serves as a symbolic link to the nearby archaeological site of ancient Troy, located about 30 kilometres to the south, making it a fitting introduction for those exploring the region’s rich heritage.
Çanakkale şehir merkezindeki sahil yürüyüş yolu üzerinde yer alan Truva Atı, bölgenin en ikonik ve en çok fotoğraflanan simgelerinden biri haline gelmiştir. Bu at, Brad Pitt’in başrolünde oynadığı 2004 yapımı Hollywood filmi Troyda kullanılan orijinal film dekorudur ve çekimlerin tamamlanmasının ardından Warner Bros tarafından Çanakkale’ye hediye edilmiştir. Türkiye’ye gelmeden önce Berlin ve Japonya gibi uluslararası durakları kapsayan bir tanıtım turuna çıkan at, Eylül 2004’te Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı ile yapılan bir anlaşma kapsamında resmî olarak Çanakkale’ye teslim edilmiştir.
